I know you are, but what am I

Okay, I should be working on my project but I was doing a little surfing. I went over to that OKCupid site just to goof off. Once again I got curious about that damned button marked "Woo," that appears when you visit anyone's page. I have no idea what the hell it does. I sure don't want to pull it on total strangers and when I've pulled it on friends and asked what it does, I don't get an answer. Okay, well, that doesn't satisfy my curiosity. The thing is, I could find out if I could display my own page and hit that button. Brilliant idea. After a long bit of experimenting, (for some reason, they apparently don't want you to see what other people see when they look you up) I figured out how to do it. I picked someone at random and did a compare between myself and them. Then, when the compare showed a link to my page, I clicked on it. Rats. The site figures out when a page is being visited by the owner of that page and it doesn't put the message and "Woo" buttons and the rest of them up there so that I could experiment. Feh. Back to the drawing board.

I did find something though, when I visited my own page. I found that I am 94% compatible with myself! Whoo hoo! This looks promising. Hairy palms in my future for sure. Ahem! Anyway though, the real interesting fact on that page is what it puts up about me based on those corny questions I go there and answer when I'm bored. Anyway, here's what those goobers are telling people about me:

  • He is less friendly than most.
  • He is more loving than most.
  • He is more capitalistic than most.
  • He is less emotional than most.
  • He is more mathematical than most.
  • He is less spiritual than most.
  • He is more optimistic than most.
  • He is more literary than most.
  • He is less sex-driven than most.
This gives me an excuse for yet another stupid poll!

Woos and Compatibility Percentages

Pressing the "Woo" button sends that person a pre-formatted message.

Something like

{username} has wooed you! This message is very special because there are only 3 woo's per day.

Maybe you should check out {his/her} profile.

Now the funny thing is that back a while ago, there was a bug in the Woo system that removed the 3 woo daily limit. They fixed that eventually. ^_^

Some people like sending woo's as it's an easy way to say hi. Other people hate receiving woo's if there's an empty profile on the other end or they don't know specifically what the other person liked about them. But they're also the type to gripe about a short initial message.

Twas a big controversy for a while, prolly still is, but I haven't checked the site in a while. Needs must do that now that finals are done, and moving is mostly done. At least they finally added paragraph breaks...

You can't be too much higher than 94% compatible with yourself due to the margin of error they provide (based on # of q's answered). That and reflexive incompatibilities (where you're one way, but you want your partner to be different).

Re: Woos and Compatibility Percentages

Thank you! My curiosity was killing me. You're a life saver.

How the hell should I know?

i answered this way on everything b/c i don't know you outside lj land. we need to kick it at some point irl.

Re: How the hell should I know?

Heh heh, I understand completely. No problem. Also, meeting you would be nice...when I can actually say I have free time again!

Re: How the hell should I know?

*nods* Definitely on the "more literary", probably on the "more mathematical". Not entirely sure on the others quite yet.
