The Very Blustery Day

I'm sitting here in the den drinking rum and eggnog with nutmeg. Budget Grommet dinners are in the oven and due out in a couple minutes. I'm having Linguini with Clams and Bay Shrimp Marinara. The wind has been blowing here for two days now. It's almost constant and very strong. The rain comes and goes. It's enough to drive you crazy. I console myself with the fact that at least it is not snow. Nevertheless, you can understand from where cabin fever comes. My elder daughter, Jackie, just walked through the den and told me "You type loud. It's making my ears ring!" They've been here since Christmas Day. I haven't got much work done yet, but I am trying. Actually, all I want to do is roll up in blankets and watch movies until this wind and rain go away. Heh heh, I moved the TV into the bedroom, so I can watch the rated "R" stuff after the girls go to bed.

The contractor came back today. He pulled up the linoleum in the dining room half of the kitchen. He's putting in these large, cream-colored, ceramic-looking tiles. It looks very nice but promises to be cold as hell on the feet. I think I'm going to buy a couple of big rag rugs to put down in the kitchen. Dealing with the disruption has taught me that a house can be empty and disorganized at the same time. It doesn't help that the guy likes to leave the garage door open, either. Fortunately, the furnace is in the den and the living room area. I still have no shower. The new wall section must be painted and the door mounted first. The utility room floor still needs tile. Until that happens, the washing machine and the utility sink sit in the garage. If anyone is looking for chaos, it has moved in with me.

In a few minutes, when everyone is finished eating, we are going to brave the elements. I have decided that what we all need is a trip to Wal-Mart to pick up "Pirates of the Caribbean," before we all go stir-crazy from this tormenting torrent. After that, the minors sack out and I get to watch another recommended movie. I've been expanding my cinematic range, these past couple of days. I have been terribly surprised by some things I never would have thought that I would find interesting, but that is a later entry.

Heffalumps and Woozles
the Sherman Brothers

They're black they're brown they're up their down
They're in they're out they're all about
They're far they're near they're gone they're here
They're quick and slick and insincere
Beware Beware Be a very wary bear
A Heffalump or Woozle is very confusel
The Heffalump or woosel is very sly
- sly - sly - sly

They come in ones and twoosels
but if they so choosels
before your eyes you'll see them multiply
- ply - ply - ply

They're extra-ordinary so better be wary
Because they come in every shape and size
- size - size - size

If honey is what you covet you'll find that they love it
Because they guzzle up the thing you prize
They're green they're blue they're pink they're white
They're round they're square they're a terrible sight
They tie themselves in horrible knots
They come in stripes or polka-dots
Beware Beware Be a very wary bear

Cabin fever, the bane of rainy days, in-law seasons, and uncomfortable silences, alike.

Your song reminded me of the Oompa Loompa song from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Hee!

Sounds like you are being very productive on your house. Hoorah! I'm cooking a carpenter friend dinner tonight while he looks at my Stove installation. I'm hoping he can help me out this week. :)

Well, to be perfectly honest, the contractor is being very productive on my landlady's house! I'm still pretty happy about the way things are going though, as long as the woman isn't fixing to throw me out and sell it... Heh heh.
