That Random Song Meme Thingy

Contracted from curtana

Okay, I am a lyrics nut. I confess. I've got about 1000 MP3's on my hard drive and the lyrics to most of them also on my hard drive. I am practically a charter member of namethattune. I am also someone who absolutely must question every rule, and I also have trouble picking just "n" things when I want them all. Accordingly, I have picked 32 songs played randomly from my hard drive. I am very ecclectic and listen to a little bit of almost everything. As a result, there has got to be at least one song on this list that any particular reader will be able to guess. Go ahead, give it a go, try your luck. Check out what kind of weirdness I call good music.

The Rule:

Put your player on random and for each of the next 25 32 songs, pick the lyrics sample you like best. Note them down and then let people guess what song was playing, from what artist.

  1. Now, when I was just a little boy,
    Standin' to my Daddy's knee,
My poppa said, "Son, don't let the man get you
Do what he done to me."
    'Cause he'll get you,
'Cause he'll get you now, now.
  2. We interweave so much that we've lost a bit of solid ground
All for a kiss the things that we miss are leveling out
And I waste my time, question it, drag my heels a bit.
Forever pressures me, now I want to be
Wrapped in rhythm soul space and rock and roll
Nothing appeals to me like bottoming out
And I erase time sleep a bit smoke the rest of it
Because time don't mean a thing without...
  3. Living is easy with eyes closed,
    misunderstanding all you see.
It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out,
it doesn't matter much to me.
  4. Some time later, I met a young graduate,
When I had nobody to call my own
I told her I was looking for somebody to appreciate,
And I just couldn't do it alone
  5. Bits and pieces... amount to nothing
    can't focus... on one thing
nothing here at all... I won't complain
but you'd agree... it's true that
    everything is small
  6. Call you up in the middle of the night,
Like a firefly without a light,
You were there like a blowtorch burnin'
I was a key that could use a little turnin'
  7. Somebody once told me,
The world is gonna roll me,
I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed,
    She was lookin' kinda dumb,
With her finger and her thumb,
In the shape of an "L" on her forehead
  8. This bed is on fire,
    With passionate love,
    The neighbors complain,
    About the noises above,
    But she only comes,
    When she's on top
  9. If I could grant you one wish,
I wish you could see the way you kiss,
Ooh, I love watching you, Baby,
    When you're driving me/you, crazy,
  10. I was making my way through the wasteland,
The road into town passes through,
I was changing the radio stations,
    With my mind on you,
All your friends call you Lily Paloma,
But that's not the way that you are,
It's too much of a gentle misnomer,
    For a shooting star
  11. As I'm sitting in my room staring out the window
    I'm wondering where you've gone
Thinking back 'bout the happy hours just before the dawn
Outside the wind is seems to call your name
    Where have you gone
  12. Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
Still a little hard to say what's going on

Still a little bit of your ghost your witness
Still a little BIT of your face I haven't kissed
You step a little closer each day
    THAT I can't SAY what's going on

  13. If it seems a little time is needed
    Decisions to be made
The good advice of friends unheeded
    The best of plans mislaid
Just looking for a new direction
    In an old familiar way
The forming of a new connection
    To study or to play
  14. If you see something that looks like a star
And it's shooting up out of the ground
And your head is spinning from a loud guitar
And you just can't escape from the sound
Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you
We were children once, playing with toys
And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound of
  15. Well, I don't think I can handle this
    A cloudy day in Metropolis
I think I'll talk to my analyst
I got it so bad for this little journalist
It drives me up the wall and through the roof
Lois and Clark in a telephone booth
I think I'm going out of my brain
I got it so bad for little miss Lois Lane
  16. It happened one summer
    It happened one time
    It happened forever
    For a short time
    A place for a moment
    An end to dream
    Forever I loved you
    Forever it seemed
  17. You live too far away
Your voice rings like a bell anyway
    Don't give up your independence
    unless it feels so right
    Nothing good comes easily;
    Sometimes you've got to fight
  18. Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am home again
    Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am whole again
    Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am young again
    Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am fun again
  19. The deception with tact, just what are you trying to say?
You've got a blank face, which irritates
Communicate, pull out your party piece
    You see dimensions in two
State your case with black or white
But when one little cross leads to shots, grit your teeth
You run for cover so discreet, why don't they:
  20. Know where to go
    It's hopeless so
I guess I'll leave it alone well I
    Spent all my day
    Fixin' up to go somewhere
    Thought I was late
And I found she wasn't there
    I guess I'll find
Love, peace of mind, some other time, but I
    Still have today
I gotta get away, gotta get away, I don't
    Know where to go
    It's hopeless so
I guess I'll leave it alone
  21. I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead
I fell down to my feet and I saw they bled
I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread
I was crowned with a spike right through my head
  22. I used to wake up in the morning
I used to feel so bad
I got so sick of having sleepless nights
I went and told my dad

He said, 'Son now here's some little something'
And stuck them on my wall
And now my nights ain't quite so lonely
In fact I, I don't feel bad at all

  23. Late last night the rain was knocking at my window
I moved across the darkened room and in the lampglow
I thought I saw down in the street
    The spirit of the century
Telling us that we're all standing on the border
  24. there's an army on the dancefloor
it's a fashion with a gun my love
in a room without a door
    a kiss is not enough
  25. If you would just be'd find me indispensable
I pray deep down to destiny
that it places you with me....
    whoa...wanting you the sheets
    Wandrin' around incomplete......
    Waiting so long....To
  26. You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discover that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal.
  27. A Hydro-field cuts through my neighborhood
Somehow that always just made me feel good
I can put a spare bulb in my hand
    And light up my yard

Late at night when the wires in the walls
Sing in tune with the din of the falls
I'm conducting it all while I sleep
    To light this whole town

  28. So needless to say I’m odds and ends
    But that’s me, stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is O.K.
    Say after me
It’s no better to be safe than sorry.
  29. It doesn't mean much
it doesn't mean anything at all
the life I've left behind me
    is a cold room
    I've crossed the last line
    from where I can't return
where every step I took in faith
    betrayed me
and led me from my home
  30. Everybody's runnin' and no one makes a move
Everyone's a winner and nothing left to lose
There's a little yellow idol to the north of Katmandu
Everybody's flying and no one leaves the ground
Everybody's crying and no one makes a sound
There's a place for us in the movies you just gotta lay around
  31. Is there a second in time that I looked around
Did I sail through or drop my anchor down
Is anything enough to kiss the ground
And say I'm here now and she's here now
  32. I woke up on guard this morning
The tone of your voice was a warning
That you don't care for me anymore

I made up the bed we sleep in
I looked at the clock when you creep in
    6 AM and I'm alone
