Today in history -- a birthday

Today is Mary Shelley's birthday. She was quite a woman. She is the author of Frankenstein. She was married to the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. Percy drowned in July of 1822 and washed up on the beach after ten days, where he was cremated. A friend of Mary's reached into the fire and plucked out Percy's heart and gave it to her. It is said that she carried it in her purse thereafter.

Her purse musta stunk to high heavens!

Owner of a smelly heart.

This is the Victorian Age woman who wrote Frankenstein. She also hung out with Lord Byron. Does this strike you as a particularly squeamish woman? Besides, after going through a cremation fire, it probably came out something like heart-jerky. I have heard that the heart now resides in a museum in England where a brass plaque declares it Heart of Hearts in Latin.

Re: Owner of a smelly heart.

Thank you.
Your subject title made me spit all over my new laptop.

Re: Owner of a smelly heart.

Perhaps, then, we should all be greatful that I did not go with my first inclination: "Love Stinks: Owner of a smelly heart." Heh heh

Wow -- a pair of coincidences:

1) I just recently finished re-reading Frankenstein

2) My mother has the same birthday (called her just a few hours ago, in fact).

Okay -- I'm scared now. O_o

Hmmm, Ms. Shelley created Frankenstein and your mother created you. Perhaps you don't want to look up the date when the book was authored, even if it is a classic. Heh heh.
